RAILROAD TO SUCCESS: Passing the RISQS Audit

Rail infrastructure and construction faces consistent challenges; balancing demand, capacity and safety as well as an increased focus on sustainability, it is crucial to be at the top of your game. Something that WOODSmith Construction Group always are.

Kay Wilson, Operations Planner at WOODSmith, talks us through her committed work to achieving and passing the RISQS Audit –

RISQS is a supplier assurance scheme from GB rail and is run by the industry, for the industry, under the stewardship of RSSB.

RISQS is central to the safe and cost-effective procurement of railway products and services, providing assurance for 110-plus buyers including Network Rail and TFL to do business with confidence with over 4,300 suppliers, of which WOODSmith are now a part of.

The process confirms each year that our business management system meets the health, safety, operational and competence standards necessary to work in the rail environment, and that everyone at WOODSmith fully complies with these processes.

To achieve this I had to do an audit which lasted over ten hours; facing questions about the company, from competencies of staff, operational systems, HSE and anti-bribery and corruption procedures. Overall, it was tough but is a major achievement for WOODSmith.

This achievement is reinforced by Gary Wood, Managing Director of WOODSmith –

Another great stepping stone for WOODSmith Construction Group who continue to go from strength to strength. This will now allow us to tender for work on the rail infrastructure which opens many doors for what we are trying to achieve. A massive thank you to Kay Wilson for her efforts in working on this framework relentlessly”.

WOODSmith Construction Group, part of the SDDE Smith Group, are committed to pushing boundaries to create better places to live, work and stay; passing the RISQS audit is a clear demonstration of how WOODSmith live and breathe their values.
