Q&A: Meet David Walton

We carry out work on a variety of commercial developments, delivering projects of all sizes and values. Overseeing this side of the business is commercial manager, David Walton.

Following a career as a quantity surveyor (from assistant through to senior), David joined our team in May 2021 and since then has worked on a variety of projects from tender to completion, with the help of our wider team. Here, we find out more about him and his role…

 

What does a typical working day look like for you?

Overseeing all financial aspects of commercial projects, including valuations, invoicing, SC enquiries, sales forecasts and preparing tender submissions.

 

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Witnessing the progression of projects from tender enquiry to new build construction.

 

Why did you choose to work in the construction industry?

I’ve always had a keen interest in construction and wanted to gain experience to enable myself to explore property development.

 

What do you enjoy most about working at WOODSmith Construction?

The modern approach to employment and feeling very much part of the ‘team’.

 

What’s been your favourite project you’ve worked on?

The Sands, a new 100-apartment building in Scarborough.

 

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A car mechanic!

 

How do you take your tea / coffee?

White, no sugar.

 

Do you have any hobbies?

I enjoy playing five-a-side football, and walking with my family and Lucy (the dog!).
